Back to reality: Potpourri #3?
...well, the nice 3 day weekend was a nice break from work and the everyday stresses of life. The only thing I really accomplished was mowing the lawn. Other than that, I just enjoyed the weekend.
On Saturday I met my mom at Stockholm's in Geneva, and enjoyed another terrific meal from them. I took a "growler" home (about a 40 ounce bottle of one of their microbrews) with me, sat on my back deck, and enjoyed... almost all of it. It's scary how a decent glass of cold beer goes down on a nice day. With the un-anticipated beer buzz on, next came the my craving for food. Trying to be somewhat healthy, we ordered vegetarian egg-foo young and veggie fried rice. After eating that my buzz was quickly soaked up by the fried goodies. Bedtime was rather early for a Saturday as Sunday was a big day.
Sunday was... my third Cubs game of the season. All the weather stations were calling for mid 60's temperatures (which translates to about mid 40's at Wrigley field), along with a 70% chance of afternoon storms. So we dressed/packed accordingly. I had a pair of jeans on, 2 tshirts and a long-sleeved shirt. I even brought a stocking cap. We also brought 2 ponchos along with. As we left I remarked to my wife that it felt alot warmer than mid 60, and this was at about 10AM. Needless to say the weathermen were completely off. Not only did it not rain, it must have been in the upper 60's at Wrigley, and I think Geneva got up to around 77. How do these weather bums still get paid when they're wrong 75% of the time? I gotta get me one of them jobs.
Cubs won (yea!), and post-game activities included going to Yak-zies, and then meeting up with some friends that own a relatively new townhouse in the River West neighborhood. We went to some bar there (can't remeber the name.. I think off of Milwaukee Ave) and ate some dinner and had some more beer. Around 10Pm I started to go down for the count. Not by over-drinking, but just from being out and about since 10AM. I think 12 hours is good enough, don't you? So we ended up leaving around 11, getting back just around midnight and literally fell into bed.
Monday included sleeping in, enjoying the nice weather, and getting some laundry done for the work week ahead.
Not the most exciting of weekends, but very relaxing, so no complaints here.
