10 Things You Wish You Knew When You Were In High School

from Ten on Tuesday!

Before I begin the list, let me say a few things about high school. Unlike alot of folks, it seems, I actually really enjoyed high school. Loved it, in fact. While it seems I was your typical high school "popular" guy (I was in golf, wrestling, and tennis, dated cheerleaders, etc..), that wasn't so much why I liked it. Even though we were in the heart of the Chicago suburbs, our high school was small.. only about 500 students total.. and we all got along. Very few "cliques" were around. The "burnouts" hung out with the cheerleaders, the "geeks" hung out with the "jocks". When someone threw a party, everyone was invited. For instance, I was also in concert and marching band. Which, it seems in most high schools, that was somewhat of a "geeky" thing to do. But alot of the football players, the cheerleaders, etc were also in concert band. I guess we just didn't care. I still stay in touch with about 15 or so friends from high school. We get together a couple of times a year. It was great.

Now, on with the list...

10 Things You Wish You Knew When You Were In High School

1. Pegging my jeans was a really bad fashion statement.
2. I should have pursued my dreams in music rather than do what was "safe".
3. That being short (I'm only 5'6") really doesn't matter that much.
4. Any problems I had in high school was trivial compared to what I face now.
5. Apparently I could have dated alot more girls if I just had the courage to ask.
6. There's alot more to the world than just the town I went to high school in.
7. The forest we used to hang out in would be cleared for a townhome development.
8. I wish I realized how much my parents cared about me.
9. How some people change for the worse.
10. Senior picture, not good: Thin tie, cardigan sweater, and hair parted down the middle.
